In the days of Audrey Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, and James Dean, smoking was a symbol that signified that a person was cool and sophisticated. Nowadays, smoking is seen as a health hazard not only to those who smoke but also to those who don’t smoke. Because of major health risks that are related to smoking, many policies have been developed. The restaurants where smokers were once able to enjoy a meal while puffing their cigarette have banned smoking in most states. Some public areas, such as beaches, have also developed smoking policies. For a lot of smokers, it seems like the only safe place to smoke now is in the comfort of their own homes.
The number of smokers in the United States is declining. Some probably will say that this is due to the negative image of smoking that is being developed through anti-smoking ads. Whatever the cause is, it is also drifting over to countries where smoking is still prominent. Europe and Asia have a heavy population of smokers. However, governments within individual countries are also developing strict smoking policies.
So where can smokers smoke? Well when it comes to smokers’ cruise vacations, policies are still found. Cruise lines are developing strict policies to ban smoking throughout their ships. So Top Cruise Club has decided to do the research and present to you the policies found on most major cruise lines. The answers to the questions “To smoke? or not to smoke?” are as followed:

I find not being able to smoke in cabins abominable as it is your home when you are on board. I am a non smoker!!!

My husband and I love cruising. I am a non smoker but my husband smokes. Surely with the number of ships each cruise company has in service, one could be designated a smoking ship, or just have smoking staterooms on ships. Celebrity has stopped smoking in staterooms altogether, why not allocate some just for smokers, similar to some hotels.

I think the reason why cruise lines are banning it from staterooms all together is because if there is a non-smoker who wants that particular stateroom for smokers, then the cruise line will have to clean it to get the smell out (which cost money).
Also, the thing about hotels vs cruise is that the location on the ship is very important to a lot of people (due to scenery, ocean view etc). So if they were to make 10 balcony staterooms smoking, however only 5 smokers go on that cruise, the other 5 rooms will remain vacant because most likely a non-smoker will not want to stay in a room that smells like smoke. That is just my opinion. It is just a lot easier to make rooms non-smoking then having to deal with the hassle of non-smokers not wanting to take left over smoking rooms.
